(Wk 25) Joy is…
… Realizing that there is lots to discover in your own city!
This weekend we made our way to the Shek O headland on Hong Kong island, to try and emulate the style of photographer, Peter Lik.
I’ve been to Shek O beach before (and it is gorgeous) but the headland area (hidden away at the end of the Shek O village road ) was an absolute gem.
Since words won’t do justice to it, let me just take you on a walk around the area.
If you squeeze past the barriers and get on to a cliff –
Climb down, get on to the bright blue bridge and look on to the other side –
Cross over the bridge and look back from Tai Tau Chau-
Climb the little hill and look around the bend –
Reach the top and gaze around –
Finally, retrace your steps and find a comfortable spot… to get lost in the sound of the turquoise waves lapping against the ochre rocks.
Absolutely serene, don’t you think?
And now, join Yvette on a joyful walk around NYC.

Such beautiful photos! I absolutely love them, and they remind me of Bondi, Australia…. 😀
I guess it’s the orange cliffs and the blue water. Simply beautiful!

Kan….. thx for linking my NYC walk amiga – that was super cool!
and also, whew – this coastal walk you give us here -was fantastic – the water in air splash shot is my fav, but maybe because of where you placed it in the post – kinda worked up to it.
also, the two little heads on the blue bridge in the one photo added something because it allows us to feel the large scale of this Shek O place. I have not heard of Peter Lik before so I will check that out too – what beautiful nature this is – and you are write – there is no way words could do what photos did ❤ ❤ ❤

Well, I delayed the joy is post, and by relation the link up to your post also. I should have done it earlier.
Peter Lik is a famous landscape photographer who recently made a record for the most expensive photograph sold. Usd 6.5m I believe! His pics have a saturated hdr look… hence a deep colour schemes in my photos. Glad you enjoyed the coastal walk. The place was absolutely gorgeous.

wow – and after perusing some of his work -I see the Lik in your post here!!
also, I read his bio and guess he now holds the spot in the top 4 mot expensive pics ever sold – whew – that is crazy! crazy crazy crazy – but good for him! and thx for linking to his work – it almost feels the opposite of Ansel Adams – yet similar – like the offspring of adams – ha!

Thanks Y 🙂 hmmm you are right about the Ansel Adams comparison… Lik’s B&Ws are great too. I feel it is easier to shoot stunning landscapes in colour. For B&W you really need to be a master of composition!

yes, i agree on the b & w and composition – but to do what you did with the deep HDR color (which is Lik like) well it has different challenges – not sure exactly what those are, but thx for sharing about him – fun to learn and his story is also inspirational because who knew an original photo could yield so much – wow

Simply stunning. The last three shots were my favourites and great timing – you managed to capture the water and Mother Nature shooting up ever so strongly and proudly 🙂 It looks like you got really close to the action, and I hope you didn’t get wet and it wasn’t too cold. Happy day, Kan. And keep walking 🙂

Thanks Mabel! Your comments are always so insightful. Yep I did clamber on to the rocks to get close to the action and in my mersmerization with the waves managed to get my jeans soaked twice! But all worth it for a good photograph 😉 I love your description….” Nature shooting up ever so strongly and proudly. ” beautiful way to put it.

Haha, I guessed right! Like a monkey climbing around you are 😀 Well worth getting soaked for, the photos are indeed stunning. Luckily you didn’t get you camera wet, but I guess you have done this kind of photography before and so are used to it 🙂

Hehe I’m usually not a monkey coz my hubby is around giving me disapproving looks! But this time I was with other photographers and seeing the lengths to which they would go for a good photo inspired me 🙂

Yvette’s walks are always joyful, aren’t they? Absolutely love that third shot, Kan, and then the big one with the spll-aaa-sssh! It doesn’t look warm but that’s probably because I’m used to our temps 🙂
Thanks for the link! Hope to join you in Joy sometime soon. 🙂

Yes they are 🙂 it’s not as cold as what you are used to about 17 degrees… but with the wind… It was still cold for me. There is a golf course on the other side (near the red building ) in that third shot, BTW. With the weather the way it is, I hope to join for more walks soon, Jo.
